It All Happens in August...and Everything After
Keep the focus of your leadership in view and your finger on the pulse.
It all happens in August. School productions are in full swing and calendar dates are being set for next year. I usually describe this as the “club draft” period in schools right now. Recruitment for key roles begins, timetable lines are being crunched and so much more. VCE students are realising that there is barely a term of classes left before they prepare for exams. There is a wellspring of energy around in stark contrast to barely over a month ago, when teachers, leaders and students were pulling themselves over the line.
The 1993 breakout album from the American rock outfit Counting Crows perfectly captures this time of year. There is August…and what we do now impacts heavily on “Everything After”.
Keeping ahead of the score is crucial for school leaders right now to hold a healthy rhythm and not fall victim to burnout when the high energy wanes. Here are two ways I can help!
Perform Your Own Monthly Reset
Regularly resetting your priorities and plan helps you hold the strategic focus clearly in view while also keeping your finger on the pulse as you take action. This was the subject of last week’s live stream. In this hands-on, practical session, we:
Reflected on the month gone and strategic opportunities in the month to come.
Reset priorities with ISMART goals and supporting actions.
Set up our month overview in our journal/planner.
Join us on the last Friday of every month for these monthly reset streams and make them a part of your “Clarity Maintenance Kit”. They aim to support you to connect, reflect, reset and lead with confidence by enacting practical routines together, that support your leadership.
Considering Coaching Support for Yourself or Your Staff?
Most professional learning activities have short term impact. Coaching enables you to apply your learning, development and more that achieves real and lasting results. You gain the confidence to lead effectively with the help of someone who wants you to succeed and has the experience to support you.
Are you considering coaching support for yourself or your staff but unsure about committing to a long term coaching engagement?
I have limited 1:1 reset sessions available, that allow you or your colleagues to trial coaching support before pursuing a more intensive coaching solution. In this session we will:
achieve clarity on one key goal or focus area
and develop a plan for taking immediate action.
